We kept noticing that most lamps apologise. They are designed to disappear, to be neutral, to fit anywhere. SOLEN was built on the opposite assumption: a light should have an opinion about where it points.
The brief was a single sentence taped to the workshop wall — light one thing well. Everything else followed from it: the weight of the base, the reach of the arm, the twenty-four clicks of the dimmer.
The brief: Light is not a quantity. It is a decision.
